Welcome
A Community at the Heart of Sparsholt
Nestled in the heart of the village, our shop is more than just a place to pick up essentials—it's a vital community hub. We are proud to be home to what is likely the smallest Post Office in the British Isles, offering a warm welcome to residents and visitors alike. Since January 2009, the shop has been owned and run by the village, ensuring it remains a valuable resource for everyone.
Our Shop and Post Office
Committed to providing competitively priced essentials, we also showcase the best of local produce and products. Despite our size, we offer an impressive range of goods and services and are always open to new ideas. Every purchase makes a difference—supporting the shop helps secure its future and keeps this vital service running for the community.
A Shared Community Asset
The Well House, which houses our shop and Post Office, has a long history of serving the village. Originally built in 1897 to provide a water supply, it was purchased by the community in 2009. Over two hundred local residents hold shares in the Sparsholt Village Shop Association, ensuring the shop remains village-owned and village-run.
Become a Shareholder
We welcome new residents to the Parish of Sparsholt. If you are resident in the Parish you are entitled to become a member of the Village Shop Association. As an Industrial and Provident Society, our primary goal is to serve the local community, with all profits reinvested into the shop. A one-off payment of £25 secures a share, with no entitlement to interest, dividends, or bonuses. If you’re interested, simply pop into the shop or email Janette at sparsholtvs@googlemail.com.
Our Team & Annual General Meeting
The shop is run by the village, for the village. Day-to-day operations are overseen by Shop Manager and Post Mistress Janette Davies. We are always happy to hear from customers, whether you have suggestions, questions, or ideas. Each year, we hold an Annual General Meeting to update shareholders and the wider village on our progress. Everyone is welcome, and we aim to provide plenty of notice for participation.
Thank you for supporting your village shop—we look forward to welcoming you soon!
